Cultural cooperation with regions of Russia and foreign countries.

Vologda Region Department of Culture and Cultural Preservation promotes establishment and development of international partner relations of the region in the sphere of culture, performs Contracts of the Vologda Oblast Government and Agreements on social, economic, scientific and cultural cooperation with other regions of Russia, promotes strengthening and development of established contacts and relations in the sphere of culture.

In 2009 there were signed Plan of events on cooperation between Vologda Region Government and Grodno Regional Executive Committee of Belarus Republic for 2010-2012, Program of joint activities between Vologda Oblast and Presov Regional Self-Government of Slovak Republic for 2010-2012. Proposals for cooperation in the sphere of culture are included.

Cultural ties with Presov Region of Slovak Republic are developing successfully. In December 2009 an exhibition “The Tatra mountains in visual arts” from Tatra gallery in Poprada city opened in the Museum-creative center “Korbakov House” of the Vologda Region Picture Gallery. The male chamber choir of the Gavrilin Vologda State Philharmonic Society took part in the festive events devoted to the 65th anniversary since the Carpathian-Dukla operation.

A joint project of the Consulate General of the Poland Republic in Saint Petersburg, Vologda Region Department of Culture and Cultural Preservation and Department of International and Interregional Relations of Vologda Oblast Government “Autumn meetings with Polish Culture” promoted strengthening of friendly relations with Poland Republic. Consul General of Poland Republic in Saint Petersburg Yaroslav Drozd took part in the opening ceremony of the Polish culture days.

In the frames of the “Autumn meetings” during October 16-18th in Vologda and Cherepovets city cultural institutions there were held concerts of classic music, demonstration of Polish movies, art exhibitions “Polish graphics of the first half of the XX-th century” and “Warsaw graphics”, poster exhibition, lace exhibition and master classes of Polish lace-weavers from Bobovo city, scientific seminar devoted to the modern restoration technologies with experts from Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Republic.

In the frames of the official visit of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Bulgaria Republic in Russian Federation in August 2009 a documentary exhibition “130 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Bulgaria” was opened in the regional universal scientific library.

In 2009 Vologda regional universal scientific library was visited by US Consul General Mrs.Guoltny and Consul for Press and Culture Issues of the US Consulate General Mr.Johnson.

In October 2009 an international scientific training seminar “Soviet-German relations in post-war times” was held.

Due to the forthcoming Year of Russia in France and Year of France in Russia cooperation with France was speed up in 2009.

Vologda Oblast delegation took part in presentation of the International festival of the Young European Cinema “Voices” in Paris. In the frames of the presentation an exhibition “Vologda lace” from Vologda State Museum-Reserve of History, Architecture and Art was arranged. Amateur group “Gostja” took part in the cultural program of the official reception devoted to the Day of Russia in the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Paris and in Christmas fair in Strasbourg.

In the frames of cooperation with Austria an exhibition “Decorative and applied art of the Russian North” opened in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Wien.

Vologda delegation took part in the VI-th Festival of Russian Art “Russia on a visit to Essen”. The festival program included a photo exhibition “My Russia” reflecting a unique historical and cultural heritage of Vologda land.

Amateur group “Gostja” took part in the cultural program of the International exhibition “Grüne Woche” in Berlin (Germany), in the cultural program in Helsinki and Tampere (Finland) devoted to the 200-th anniversary since Grand Finnish Principality became a part of the Russian Empire.

Experts of the Vologda Region Picture Gallery participated in the international exhibition “Futurism -100” in Rovereto (Italy).

Vologda Oblast delegation took part in the XVI-th international exhibition of restoration art and conservation of historical and art heritage “Restauro” (Ferrara, Italy).

Amateur groups of Gavrilin Vologda State Philharmonic Society toured actively abroad: Male chamber choir – in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia; Theatre of Big Puppets – in Finland, Estonia, Lithuania; a variety group conducted by V.Preobrazhenskiy – toured in the Ukraine cities. A piano duet of I.Bogomolova and N.Zhukova gave a concert in the Russian center of science and culture in Bratislava (Slovakia). Amateur group of folk singing “Solntsevorot” (Solstice) took part in the international festival “Days of Slavic heritage” in Warsaw, in the program “Days of Russia” in Polozk (Poland) and in the concert in the Russian center of science and culture in Warsaw. During the year in the frames of season-ticket activity the philharmonic society arranged performances of the V.Gorokhovskiy trio (USA), Pyatigorskiy jazz group (USA), performers T.Iomets (Estonia), D.Dekker (USA), A.Shilkloper (Denmark) and others.

Vologda awarded with the “Sign of Honour” State Drama Theatre in September 2009 took part in the IV-th international theatre festival “Meetings in Odessa” (Ukraine).

In the frames of the festival “International week of conservatoires” in October 2009 the teachers from Western-Michigan University (USA) visited cities of Vologda and Cherepovets. Friendly partner relations are established between Western-Michigan University and Cherepovets Regional College of Arts and Crafts named after Vereschagin. There was a concert of American brass-quintet in the Vologda Kremlin and creative meetings and master classes for students and teachers in the Vologda regional musical college and Cherepovets regional college of arts.

The Vologda land will welcome participants and guests of the X-th jubilee International theatre festival “Voices of History” that will take place in Vologda during June 24th-July 2nd, 2010 and the festival of the Young European Cinema “Voices” on July 4-9th, 2010.
